Group Home Supervisor
I have always enjoyed the classroom environment. So, I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Spanish, a Master of Arts in International Business, and a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language. Each of these degrees focuses on working with and being with other people. I enjoy learning about and getting to know people from all backgrounds. I have friends from many countries around the world because of my educational experiences.
I believe that everyone has something positive to share and offer others in relationships. Most people will live up to the expectations of others. Every human being needs to feel valued and appreciated. So, I always look for the positive in other people and look for ways to build on the positives or strengths of others. This naturally makes people feel valued when they can use their strengths, they then feel valued as though they can contribute. When a person feels that she/he can meet the expectations of others it strengthens their self-esteem. This is especially important for children as they develop their identity and sense of self worth. It is also important for adults that may have special needs or challenges and loneliness in life, because everyone needs to feel important to someone.
Outside of Work
I am proud to say that I am from Winona, MN. I only say that as I did live away from Winona for 20 years. Former homes include Minneapolis, Mankato, Mexico, and Alaska. I also managed to live through and loved being a teenager in the 70’s and 80’s. My passion as a teenager was all about social connections. This led to my interest in learning and speaking Spanish and then spending time traveling and living in Mexico in high school and college. A few years ago my daughters and I traveled in Mexico and visited the family that I had lived with on two separate occasions while a college student in the 80’s. I found tremendous joy in sharing this experience with my daughters.
Present day life includes a large family of 6 adult kids and 4 grandchildren. Much of our focus is on spending time with these 10 very important people in our lives. We spend a lot of time with them at our cabin in Minong, WI. Two of our six kids live in Florida so we also try to make it to Florida for a few days every year. Long term goal will be to spend half of each year in Florida bothering these two offspring.
I’m certain I have few skills that come near being considered a super power. However, I do have the ability to make my husband and our kids laugh. This is seldom intentional. I frequently confuse random inconsequential details. Of course these are details that they may deem important such as the name of a current “musical star.” An example of this would be me confusing the name Jack Johnson with Joe Jackson and the song title of Banana Pancakes with Potato Pancakes. My youngest daughter and I both share this somewhat “dingy side” so we are occasionally picked on for being confused. We are also the funnest members of our family.
