I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and have had a vast array of experience working in the field. While in college, I did my internship through Family and Children’s Center working in the early childhood day treatment. Following graduation, I worked at Gerard Academy (residential treatment facility for adolescents) where I truly learned so much about approaches, diagnosis, challenging behaviors and knowing the importance of patience. After moving out West for a few years and taking a break from the human services field, I missed working at a job where I felt rewarded by helping others. Once we moved back home, I knew that I wanted to get a job that was fulfilling. I started off working part time doing supervised visits at Matty’s Place before being offered the full time position as Designated Coordinator here at Legacies.
One of the biggest things I value is authenticity. I translate this into my approach by communicating with my staff and clients frequently and in doing so, I ensure that I am being transparent. I want the people that I support to trust in me and feel comfortable telling me their feelings or ideas. I believe that consistency also helps me build strong, positive relationships by illustrating that I am trustworthy and will follow through on my word. I am a firm believer that perception is reality and I bring this into my approach with both staff and clients to understand where they are coming from and validating their feelings and perspectives.
Outside of Work
Outside of Legacies, I spend my time enjoying the company of my boyfriend of 7 years and our Porkie (Pomeranian/Yorkie) named Tucker. I enjoy traveling, going for walks, doing yoga, cooking, and watching movies. Being in a field that can be challenging at times, it is so important to participate in activities that help re-fill your bucket to avoid burning out. I am one of three children, I have an older brother that is a teacher in Nevada and an older sister that is a dental hygienist in the twin cities. I was raised in Albert Lea, MN on an acridge and enjoyed growing up surrounded by cats, dogs, pigs, and rabbits.
Before moving back to Winona, I lived in Las Vegas for two years and worked at Tommy Bahamas’s Restaurant. During my time there, I met Mark Ruffalo, Randy Couture and David Copperfield.
